Review: Bumble and Bumble – Don’t Blow It Fine (H)air Styler

While there’s not much in this world that’s better than a killer blow out, the physical and emotional toll that comes with it (or financial if you’re getting professional blow outs done on the regular) just isn’t always worth it. Also, the heat and stress damage to your hair is pretty hefty.

Before I dyed my hair, I used to blow dry almost every time I washed my hair. (I also used to *shudder* use a straightening iron several times a week intermixed with a curling iron). Even when I had virgin hair, it was in pretty bad shape. For one, my hair is really fine, which predisposes it to damage. It doesn’t really grow either, well it does, but every time my hair starts to get below shoulder length, I get the dreaded split ends and it just goes to hell. So when I finally decided to fulfill my blonde dreams, you bet my number one concern was the health of my hair. I would never have gone blonde if it wasn’t for the miracle that is Olaplex (and a killer hairstylist of course). In a nutshell, Olaplex makes it possible for you to engage in processes that used to be extremely damaging to your hair (coloring, perms, etc) while maintaining your hairs integrity and even strengthening it. Another thing I was ready to commit to was cutting back on heat styling, my stylist explained that if I wanted to maintain my color longer and keep my hair healthy that I absolutely must put down the heat tools as much as possible.

I decided that being blonde at last was well worth it and I haven’t looked back. But now I’m in a constant search for products that will make my hair healthy and help me cut down on styling needs. I’m constantly trying new supplements for hair growth and strength, styling products from basic shampoo to intensive masks and leave in treatments and the Holy Grail, an air dry product that will mimic the effect of a blow out.

Somewhere along my quest I stumbled upon Bumble and Bumble’s Don’t Blow It (h)air styler for fine hair. I got it as a free sample and it instantly climbed the ranks of my air styling products and became my number one.

Here’s why: out of all the air styling products I have tried (and there are many…like just about every new air style product that comes to market), it is the best.

I score it a 9/10. The reason I don’t give it a full 10 is because in my mind, even though I know it’s pretty much impossible, a 10 would mean that it gives me blow out results without having to touch a hair dryer or round brush. But honestly, Don’t Blow It comes pretty close. I’d say it gives me the results of blow-drying with a paddle brush, or using a round brush quickly. It gives incredible smoothness, it majorly controls frizz, gives beautiful shine and best of all: volume! And it majorly extends the number of days I can go without having to wash my hair.

I have never found an air dry product that gives this level of volume, softness, and shine. It’s super easy to use as well. All I do is put on my regular leave in treatment focusing on my ends, then I put about a quarter size of Don’t Blow It in my fingers, rub my hands together and then apply to my hair focusing this time on my roots. I then use a wet brush to detangle and then, I’m done. I just let my hair air dry and go about my day. It’s just delightful in every aspect. Oh, and it also smells good, which is a must for me.

It’s so good that on the days when I would normally pull out the blow dryer like if there’s a fancy occasion, I’m going to be photographed or a date night, I find myself actually being able to decide if I even need to blow dry. The only thing the blow dryer has over this product is the amount of volume it can create, that’s it really. Which in my mind is just absolutely incredible. Not only does Don’t Blow It help me keep my hair healthy and strengthened, it also gives me back my time. I don’t know about you, but blow drying my hair takes me at least a half hour and longer if I’m sectioning and using a round brush…and that’s just a huge amount of time to get added into your day. It’s amazing.

I love that they have two versions, specially designed for fine or thicker hair. While the price tag is up there in the higher end range ($31 at Sephora), it’s well worth it. It’s good for your hair, it also allows you to save money because you don’t have to buy so many blow dry products and it gives you more time in your day.

Time is money honey, go invest in this gem and live your life to its fullest. Pun intended.
