For the past few months, my favorite shaving gel has been Aveeno’s Positively Smooth Moisturizing Shave Gel with Aloe ($3.99), nothing else could beat its creaminess and lasting moisturization, that is until now. It’s funny because it took me forever to try Target’s Smoothing Soy Shave Gel by their brand Up&Up ($1.99), even though it’s literally always right next to Avenno’s and it looks deceptively similar. But you know how it can be with Dupes, usually too good to be true. So you hesitate, not wanting to get your heart broken. Thankfully, I took the plunge and honey, the risk was worth it!
Also, before I get into the breakdown, I want to address one tiny thing. Some people might not think it’s a big deal finding a dupe for something that’s only $3.99, but baby, everything adds up. I’m all about saving money, so whether it’s a $2 savings or a $50 savings, you better believe I’m gonna be behind it. #keepingwalletshappyeverywhere
Another thing I want to touch on, I wasn’t actually a shaving cream believer, until I found Aveeno’s Positively Smooth Shaving Gel that is. I just found that most shaving creams were not actually that moisturizing and lots of them were loaded with way too much fragrance that had a tendency to irritate not only my skin but my nasal passages as well. It’s like even if the shaving creams felt moisturizing and made shaving easier, as soon as it’s rinsed off, my legs were worse for wear.
Everything changed of course when I found Aveeno shave gel. It was for real, the best shaving cream I have ever used. By far, the most truly moisturizing both as it’s on during shaving and after the fact. It helps my legs feel ultra moisturized after it’s rinsed off, in fact, you could even go without lotion it’s so moisturizing. It also smells amazing, like oats with a hint of aloe. That might not sound great, but trust, it’s heavenly. It has a natural freshness that’s just lovely. I also love how it’s a gel, so it comes out gel-like and as you rub it in it turns into a texture that resembles and feels like a normal shaving cream, only it’s so much more moisturizing and rich.
So now that I’ve established how incredible Aveeno shave gel is, are you ready for the dupe? You better be as ready as your bank account is (ready for all that savings it’s about to get).
I present to you, Target brand Up&Up’s Smoothing Soy Shave Gel ($1.99).
It looks very similar to Aveeno’s packaging wise, and thankfully, the similarities don’t end there. It’s very, very similar in all aspects, texture, moisturization, and scent. The only differences are the color of the gel itself, Up&Up’s is whiter, while Aveeno’s is a more off-white, bordering on light tan shade. I don’t know why that would matter though. So let’s talk performance: I actually prefer Target’s, it’s even richer and creamier than Aveeno’s and I find that after getting out of the shower, Up&Up’s shave gel leaves my skin feeling more moisturized for a longer period of time.
The scents are almost indistinguishable from each other, Up&Up’s might be a tad bit more floral, but I don’t hate that at all. For me what it comes down to is performance and Up&Up is definitely a bit more moisturizing, and it’s less expensive, so ring those bells, pop that champagne, we have a genuine dupe on our hand’s ladies and gents. Now get yourself on down to Target and let the product speak for itself, the proof is in the pudding, or in this case, the gel. You will turn into an avid believer the second you try it, guaranteed or my motto isn’t #happywalletseverywhere
